St. Mary's


The Department of Medicine at St. Mary’s Hospital is made up of 14 divisions (Cardiology, Critical Care, Dermatology, Endocrinology, Gastroenterology, Geriatric Medicine, Infectious Diseases, Internal Medicine, Nephrology, Neurology, Pre-Operative Medicine, Respirology, Rheumatology/immunology) and attends 110 inpatient beds, divided into three clinical teaching units in the areas of Geriatric Medicine, General Internal Medicine and Critical Care. Outpatient and consultation services are available in all divisions and a very active Medical Day Center records more than three thousand visits per year. We have recently expanded our Dialysis facilities and have instituted a division of Pre-Operative Care that is staffing the Patient Assessment Center. Renovations are currently underway to expand and update the Emergency Department.


As member of the Â鶹AV network, St. Mary’s Hospital Department of Medicine is committed to teaching excellence though many levels of clinical teaching experiences.  St. Mary’s currently offers rotations to medical students at all levels of their clinical training, from patient interviews to senior clerkship, as well as to Family Medicine residents and a variety of specialty residents in Cardiology, Geriatric Medicine and Care of the Elderly, Internal Medicine and General Internal Medicine, Pre-Operative Care and Gastroenterelogy.  Electives are available to students and residents in most specialties, including Cardiology, Critical Care, Rheumatology, Neurology, Gastroenterelogy, Infectious Diseases, Respirology and Nephrology.  There is a large base of clinical material here for clinical research and the Department of Epidemiology provides infrastructure. Research will be a growth area in the coming years.
