2028
Thank you to all who attended the DOM World Class Teams Presentations on March 26, 2024. The Department of Medicine opens a call for applications every 4 yearsĚýtherefore the next call will be announced in January of 2028.
2024
We are excited to announce the conclusion of our inaugural Â鶹AV DOM World Class Teams process (see below)! After rigorous and diligent review and scoring of written submissions and oral presentations our panel of external experts has chosen our top three Established and our top three Emerging Teams.
The scoring was remarkably consistent between panel members. The margins between the Top three and Top five were thin. Kudos to the teams for their stellar work and their excellent submissions.
A major outcome of this exercise has been to get DOM scientists thinking about/living team science. Scientific excellence is increasingly becoming a team sport. It was heartening to see the birth of new collaborations kindled by the process. All 20 teams will get detailed feedback on strengths and areas of improvement to enhance their groups. All teams will have a chance to compete again in four years (like the Olympics).
I would like to thank our panel Chair Dr. David Eidelman, panel members Dr. Stephen Archer, Dr. Gareth Lim, Dr. Deborah Siegal, Dr. Shari Baum, Dr. Morag Park, Dr. MichaĂ«l ChassĂ©, Dr. Michael Hill, Dr. Stephen Robbins and our AEC team (led by Ferdinand Ochor) for doing such an excellent job of running the competition. -ĚýDr. Marc Rodger, Â鶹AV Department of Medicine Chair

Great science + great presenters + great panel = great day!
Last Tuesday, our World Class Teams panel was treated to a showcase of 20 “elevator pitch” presentations from potential world class teams. Wow! What talent we have in our Department. I couldn’t be prouder.
Thanks to the teams who clearly put in a colossal effort to prepare submissions/presentations. Also, a shout out to the leaders, past and present, who support/have supported the development of these fantastic teams.
The panelists were thoroughly impressed with the depth and breadth of the science presented. They expressed that we should take great pride in hosting such fantastic teams in the DOM.
HUGE shout out to Ferdinand Ochor and the AEC8 crew whose outstanding event organization efforts led to a logistically smooth and tech bug-free day at the new OSLER auditorium.
The panel will reconvene shortly to finalize the selection process with an expected announcement of our top 3 Established and top 3 Emerging teams in the coming month.
(Disclaimer: Marc Rodger and Kevin Schwartzman were team members on individual WCT submissions and were not involved in any of the scoring or panel deliberations.)

Thank you for your applications to the DOM World Class Teams Process. We're excited to announce that 20 teams will be presenting at the World Class Teams competition on March 26, 2024. Each team will deliver a 10 minute “elevator pitch” presentation to our panel, followed by 5 minutes of feedback.
Our goal? To identify our top 3 established world class teams and our top 3 emerging world class teams across the Â鶹AV DOM ecosystem.
Established world class teams include multiple scientists collaborating and generating world leading outputs in an area. Emerging world class include multiple scientists collaborating in an area with clear and attainable plans to become world leaders. Read more about the World Class Teams Process here.Ěý
With over 160 members participating, this event is a first of its kind in the DOM, so join us virtually and come support your teams!
