Learner Experience Advisor
The ‘Learner Experience Advisor’ is a faculty member that will be available to residents to discuss issues relating to the learning environment. While this resource will complement the Faculty of Medicine Wellness Office and the VP Wellness of the MGSRC, it is meant to be removed from those formal groups and the RPC as well. The Advisor will be there should you need to discuss issues such as uncertainty on what to report, interpretation of learning environment problems, confidentiality concerns, etc.
Dr. Stephanie Wong is the current Learning Experience Advisor. Dr. Wong is based at the Jewish General Hospital and is a graduate of Â鶹AV's General Surgery Residency. She is already a great resource for many residents and is known for her compassion and friendly interaction with residents.Â
A message from Dr. Wong:
"Having just been there, I understand how unbelievably stressful surgical residency can be and how much it helps to debrief with someone who understands what you're going through. Am happy to lend an ear if you ever want to discuss the circumstances around a specific event or if you need support with issues related to the learning environment on your surgical rotations. Everything we discuss will be completely confidential and kept between us, with the goal of you having a safe space to articulate your concerns before deciding if or how you'd like to act on them."Â
While Dr. Wong is available to residents, residents should also be aware of the formal mechanisms for notifying the program or the university of any harassment, discrimination, or other: /how-to-report/.
°Õ³ó±ðÌýOffice for Respectful Environments is the main resource for making a formal complaint. The email address is respect.fmhs-fmss [at] mcgill.ca . Furthermore, Dr. Liberman and Dr. McKendy are always available as a resource for residents whether to discuss a situation formally or informally, or to guide you in the process of making a formal complaint.Â
The Well Office is a another good resource, offering wellness and academic support.
