Employer Tax Credits
The Quebec government allows certain Quebec-based companies to claim a percentage of a student's salary and training costs. This financial assistance granted to companies or individuals takes the form of a refundable tax credit which can be applied, depending on the case, to reduce the installments to be paid for tax and capital tax, if there occurs. All students in the B.A.(Education) are in a government recognized co-op/internship program. If your company qualifies for the tax credit, paying a student intern may entitle you to a tax credit.
Eligible companies can receive funding for a maximum of 420 hours per work-term, extendable to 840 hours for an eight-month internship placement. The Tax Credit Form should be completed and sent in at the end of the placement.
Your company can verify if it meets the criteria on or by calling 1-800-567-4692.
. Please note that the form and instructions are only available in French.
Eligible expenses:
- The basic hourly wage paid to an intern, up to $21 per hour
- The base hourly wage paid to the employee of the company supervising the internship, up to $35 per hour
For a company to benefit from this tax measure, the internship must, among other things:
- Be paid (minimum wage or more)
