Internal Postdoctoral Fellowships

There are several postdoctoral fellowships that are available. Some of these are restricted to specific research areas so please pay attention to this when preparing your applications.

Conrad F. Harrington Fellowship

Established in 1999 in honour of Conrad F. Harrington in recognition of his leadership in developing the Â鶹AV Health Centre. The Postdoctoral Fellowship in the area of amytrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) will support researchers who have received their M.D. or Ph.D. degrees and who wish to advance their research careers in the Faculty of Medicine in the Â鶹AV Health Centre. In the event that there are no candidates investigating ALS, the Fellowship will be awarded to support a postdoctoral candidate working in a related area of neurological disease. Awarded by the Postgraduate Award Committee of the Faculty of Medicine.
Value: $17,000 (before taxes and benefits).

Dr. David T.W. Lin Fellowship

Established in 1998 by a generous gift from a Â鶹AV graduate of Chemical Engineering (Class of 1959), from Hong Kong, in recognition of Dr. David T.W. Lin, B.Sc. 1937, M.D., C.M. 1940, a surgeon emeritus at the Royal Victoria Hospital, to support medical research. Awarded by the Postgraduate Awards Committee of the Faculty of Medicine to a student at the Postdoctoral, Ph.D. or M.Sc. level.
Value: $20,000(before taxes and benefits).

McLaughlin Fellowship

Established by the R. Samuel McLaughlin Foundation for Postdoctoral Fellowships for individuals with an M.D. or Ph.D. degree and who are undertaking research within the Â鶹AV Faculty of Medicine or affiliated hospitals. The Fellowship will be awarded for one year, by the Postgraduate Awards Committee of the Faculty of Medicine. The recipient is eligible to re-enter the competition for a second year of support. Candidates must be a healthcare professional legally licensed to practice in the province of Quebec.
Value: $25,000 (before taxes and benefits).

Peter Quinlan Fellowship in Oncology

To honour the memory of Peter Quinlan, a fellowship fund has been established in his name by his family and friends. The Peter Quinlan Fellowship will support young researchers (M.D. or Ph.D.) who wish to undertake postdoctoral training in oncology at Â鶹AV and its affiliated hospitals under the direction of a member of the Faculty of Medicine. The Fellowship will be awarded by the Postgraduate Awards Committee of the Faculty of Medicine for one year, but the recipient is eligible to re-enter the competition for a second year of support.
Value: Stipend will follow CIHR salary scale, up to $40,000(before taxes and benefits).

The Ungar Fellowship--The Rosenberg/Ungar/Schwarzbard/Kallchman Hematology Research

Established by Irene Ungar in memory of her mother Tammy Rosenberg Ungar and her sister Sandy Rosenberg Schwarzhard Kalichman,is open to both doctoral and post- doctoral applicants in any department in the Faculty of Medicine specifically for Hematology research. Applications will be evaluated by the Postgraduate Awards Committee (PGAC) and awarded by the Faculty of Medicine. This award is for one year. Preference will be given to a female candidate.

Richard and Edith Strauss Postdoctoral Fellowships in Medicine

The Richard and Edith Strauss Postdoctoral Fellowships in Medicine will recognize and promote research in the areas of stem cell and regenerative medicine, chronic disease and aging. Fellowships will support Postdoctoral researchers at Â鶹AV and will be awarded by the Faculty of Medicine Postgraduate Awards Committee (PGAC), with no citizenship requirement.
