Brenda Ravenscroft, Dean of the Schulich School of Music, has received the 2022 Angela Hildyard Recognition Award as an Influential Leader given by the Senior Women Academic Administrators of Canada (SWAAC). Â

We are pleased to announce that the three finalists chosen to compete for the 2021-2022 Wirth Vocal Prize are soprano Alexis Reed, soprano Kelsey Ronn, and soprano Elisabeth Saint-Gelais. These singers were selected from the splendid semifinal round held on Thursday, March 10 at Pollack Hall.  Â

Martha de Francisco, Associate Professor of Sound Recording in the department of Music Research at the Schulich School of Music, is a record producer and recording engineer specializing in Classical music. Her research interests include music recording with virtual acoustics, critical listening studies and the aesthetics of recorded music.Â

Andrew Hon, Frédéric-Alexandre Michaud, and Will Myers are the first successful candidates in the inaugural round of the Program to Support Graduate Conducting Students in the Study and Performance of Music by Composers from Underrepresented Groups.

Appointment of new Dean of the Schulich School of Music
Professor Sean Ferguson has been appointed as the next Dean of the Schulich School of Music. Prof. Ferguson’s five-year, renewable term will begin on July 1, 2022, and end June 30, 2027.Â

The Schulich School of Music was featured at the Faculty Matters discussion series on December 13, 2021 which was hosted by Angela Campbell, Associate Provost (Equity and Academic Policies). Â
A brief interactive discussion was had about the History of Jazz with Prof. and Dean Brenda Ravenscroft and Prof. Camille Thurman who provided her experience as musician and academic. Â
Anthony Tan Wins 2021 Jules Léger Prize
Anthony Tan (MMus’09, PhD’15) is the winner of the 2021 Jules Léger Prize for New Chamber Music for his composition Ways of Returning (2020). An 18-minute-long piece for amplified string quartet and electronics, Ways of Returning was commissioned by Quatuor Bozzini and E27 musique nouvelles.Â
