Areas of interest:
I am a health outcomes scientist with a passionate interest in addressing research questions to support evidence-based surgical care. The overarching goal of my research program is the generation of knowledge to improve the outcomes of surgical patients. Given the opioid crisis in North America, my current research endeavors are focused optimizing postoperative pain management while reducing the risk of opioid adverse-effects, including addiction and overdose. In particular, my team’s research aims bridge critical knowledge gaps regarding the comparative-effectiveness of opioid versus opioid-free analgesia after surgical discharge
Specialization:
Current projects
- Opioid-free analgesia after outpatient general surgery: A pilot randomized controlled trial.
- General surgeons’ perceptions, attitudes and beliefs regarding the prescription of opioids after postoperative hospital discharge: A qualitative study
- Non-pharmacological interventions to manage postoperative pain after abdominal surgery: a systematic review and meta-analysis.
- Opioid versus opioid-free analgesia after caesarean delivery: a systematic review and meta-analysis.
- Evaluation of opioid prescription and consumption after hospital discharge following colorectal surgery: A prospective cohort study.
- Prescribing and consumption of opioids after bariatric surgery: A multicenter prospective cohort study.
