PhD students are required to complete the following milestones. Additional details and links to forms can be found at the bottom of the page.
- Register each semester. Please see section onÌýregistration for full details
- Review the Department of PsychiatryÌý Letter of understandingÌýwith your supervisor. This letter is designed to promote dialogue between the supervisor(s) and the graduate student, to define expectations, and to increase awareness of department and faculty policies and procedures.ÌýFill out the expectations section on pages 5 and 6, and sign on page 7. An in-person meeting is recommended but not required. Once signed, the letter can be uploaded directly toÌý. SeeÌý³ó±ð°ù±ðÌýfor further instructions. Letters of understanding are due 30 days after the program starts.
- By the end of your first semester, you must have constituted an advisory committee (see below) and submitted your firstÌýResearch Progress Tracking form.ÌýThis first progress tracking step is meant to ensure that the research objectives have been clearly outlined, and the form must only be signed by the student and supervisor (the advisory committee does not need to be present). Once signed, this form can be uploaded directly toÌý.ÌýAccording to Â鶹AV’s Regulations on Graduate Student Supervision, the supervisory committee must be comprised of a minimum of three members, and consistÌýof at least one faculty member in addition to the supervisor.Ìý
- By the end of your first year in the program, you must hold an advisory committee (all members) meeting and then submit aÌýResearch Progress Tracking form. You must also complete and submit theÌý PhD Advisory Committee Form. Once signed, bothÌýforms can be uploaded directly toÌý. Advisory committee meetings are mandatory, and must be held at the end of each year in the program.ÌýAll committee members of the advisory committee must attend these meetings.
Students should submit their progress reports according to the following timelines:Ìý
- September admission: Objectives by December 31; Progress reports by August 31
- January admission: Objectives by April 30, Progress reports by December 31
- Advisory committee: This committee, selected together with the supervisor, will consist of the thesis supervisor and other professors who will advise the student about his/her research program. For PhD students, the committee will be composed of the supervisor and two other professors in the department.ÌýÌý
- All PhD students must complete a comprehensive exam by the end of their second year and register for the course PSYT 701:ÌýComprehensive Exam Mental Health. ÌýPlease see the comprehensive exam section for more details.
