Institut Pasteur.

The primary mission of the Institut Pasteur, as with the Alexandra Hospital, was to care for patients with infectious disease. Initially, this was mostly tuberculosis. However, other diseases were also treated, particularly polio during several epidemics in Quebec in the 1950-60’s. Unlike the Alexandra Hospital, which was dedicated to children, the Pasteur also cared for adults. In 1934, the Hospital opened on Sherbrooke Street East under the management of the Soeurs Grises (Grey Nuns), associated with St Luc Hospital. In 1967, it became a residential and long-term care center: the Centre d’Hébergement J.-Henri Charboneau (after Dr. Charboneau, the Hospital’s first and long-standing Medical Director).
