Isabel Pike’s research focuses on questions of gender and development, using quantitative and qualitative methods. One stream of her research examines how gender and poverty shape the life course, including around relationships, education, and work. Another examines international development as an arena of knowledge and expertise, with different assumptions, concepts, and approaches in circulation. In this vein, her current book project examines the rise of the narrative that the “boy child has been neglected” in Kenya. Her next project examines professional trajectories into the population and development arena as well as the emergence of prominent policy frames such as the demographic dividend.
